Immediate job opening for a Director of Business Development with a world-leading drug discovery CRO. Extensive service offerings (7000+), with a powerhouse scientific team ready to partner with you to win new business and manage existing accounts. This role is customer facing and manages integrated drug discovery opportunities across the Bay Area and West Coast. This is a leadership position.

Role Summary: Achieving corporate growth objectives in the designated territory, with a primary focus on Integrated Drug Discovery (IDD) opportunities that leverage capabilities across the complete drug discovery service and product portfolio.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Possess a global understanding of the drug discovery and drug development process.
Demonstrate global knowledge of relevant markets, including academic, biotech, and pharmaceutical sectors.
Identify, negotiate, and successfully close complex deals exceeding $500,000.
Act as the primary customer contact in a matrix organization to identify, negotiate, and finalize intricate projects.
Display self-motivation and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Manage all aspects of the territory, including forecasting and sales.
Provide leadership and mentorship within the commercial team.
Take responsibility for sales and sales support of all Drug Discovery services.
Perform the duties of Manager, Business Development in the defined territory.
Service existing accounts, secure orders, and establish new accounts for the Drug Discovery service portfolio.
Expand existing contracts through a systematic renewal process that includes additional service offerings.
Support business growth, including travel for client visits, on-site technical visits, teleconferences, presentations, workshops, seminars, trade shows, cold calls, and networking.
Identify opportunities for expanding business in chemistry, in vitro biology, safety, and Translational Biology services.
Gather knowledge and communicate internally to the marketing and technical team on best practices and strategic approaches for IDD, conveying such information externally as needed. Provide regular meetings and monthly summaries for Integrated Drug Discovery (IDD) opportunities.
Focus business growth efforts by studying existing accounts and potential new business volumes.
Keep management informed by submitting activity and results reports.
Research prospective accounts in target markets, pursue leads, and follow through to successful agreements.
Understand the market and competition as it pertains to Chemistry outsourcing and contract research in the IDD space.
Regularly communicate and interact with senior management, members of staff in R&D and Operations, Sales and Sales Management, as well as clients and potential clients
Qualifications:
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related field is required
Minimum 5 years of work experience in drug discovery markets with an emphasis on small molecule discovery and development space – either in sales, marketing, business development, or R&D.
Understanding of IDD and the platforms that combine to make up this offering.
Ability to travel up to 40%, including overnight and weekends.
